This website is part of a national initiative to support recognition of simulation professionals as a distinct occupation in Australia.

Information collected through this site is used to:

  • Understand the scope, scale, and characteristics of the simulation workforce
  • Support submissions to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and occupational classification frameworks (including OSCA)
  • Inform sector-wide advocacy, workforce planning, and policy development

2. Compliance with Australian law

This project is conducted in accordance with applicable Australian privacy legislation, including:

  • The Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth)
  • The Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)

These principles govern the collection, use, storage, and disclosure of personal information.

In alignment with these requirements, we:

  • Collect only information reasonably necessary for the stated project purposes (APP 3)
  • Take reasonable steps to ensure individuals are aware of how their data is used (APP 5)
  • Securely store and protect information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access (APP 11)
  • Ensure published/shared data is de-identified and not reasonably identifiable (APP 6)

3. The information we collect

We may collect the following types of information:

  • Professional information (e.g., role title, sector, area of practice, responsibilities)
  • Workplace context (e.g., industry, organisation type, simulation activities)
  • Demographic or background information (optional and non-identifying)
  • Contact information (optional, and only where explicitly provided)

You are not required to provide identifying information to participate.

4. Use of Information

All data collected will be used solely for:

  • Research and analysis purposes
  • Workforce modelling and occupational classification efforts
  • Aggregated reporting to stakeholders and policymakers

Data will not be used for commercial purposes.

5. Anonymisation and Reporting

  • All data will be de-identified and anonymised prior to analysis
  • Findings will be reported only in aggregate form
  • No individual, organisation, or identifiable record will be disclosed

6. Data Security

We are committed to ensuring al information is secure:

  • Data is stored in secure, access-controlled systems
  • Access is restricted to authorised project personnel only
  • Technical and organisational safeguards are in place to prevent:
    • Unauthorised access
    • Data loss or misuse
    • Disclosure of identifiable information

7. Data Retention

  • Data will be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfil the project’s objectives
  • At the conclusion of the project, data will be:
    • Securely archived in anonymised form, or
    • Safely deleted where no longer required

8. Voluntary Participation

Participation is entirely voluntary.

By submitting information, you:

  • Consent to its use as described in this policy
  • Understand that all reporting will be anonymised and aggregated

9. Disclosure to third parties

  • No identifiable data will be disclosed to 3rd parties
  • Aggregated, anonymised findings may be shared with:
    • Government agencies (e.g., ABS)
    • Professional bodies (e.g., Simulation Australasia)
    • Research and policy stakeholders
